Hiring Lakeway movers is rarely about the furniture. It is about the access. Steep downhill driveways off RR 620, gated communities that will not open for a truck without paperwork, and lakefront lots with access only from the back deck all change how a crew should staff, stage, and quote the job. A quote that holds is one built on those details before move day.
This guide is for Lakeway homeowners, families moving out from Austin, and anyone moving between Hill Country neighborhoods on the west side of Lake Travis. Our office is on FM 620 in northwest Austin, and we move in Lakeway every week. Use it so your estimate already reflects driveway grade, gate rules, and home size you locked in writing. For neighborhood details, see our Lakeway movers page.
Who this Lakeway hire checklist is for

Use it if you are moving into a gated community like Rough Hollow or Flintrock Falls, leaving a lakefront home near the Lakeway Resort area, or upsizing into a larger Hill Country home. Use it if you got phone quotes that never asked about your driveway or your gate. Skip movers who will not put crew size, truck plan, and time rules on paper.
Steep driveways and where the truck stages
Many Lakeway driveways drop sharply from the street, and some will not take a loaded full-size truck in reverse. Ask and write down:
- How steep the driveway is and whether a loaded truck can back down it safely.
- Where the truck can stage on flat ground if it cannot reach the door.
- How far the crew will carry or roll items from the truck to the entry.
- Whether a smaller truck makes more sense for your lot.
Here is how we handle it: we pre-walk approach photos for every Lakeway move. When a driveway is too steep, the truck stages on the flat and the crew shuttles items up or down. Some lakefront lots near the Lakeway Resort area have access only from the deck on the dock side, and for those we bring a smaller box truck. There is no extra fee for stairs or long carries. They just add time, so we plan the crew size around them.
Photograph the driveway from the street, the entry, any exterior stairs, and the back deck if it is the only way in. Email the photos to support@heavenlymove.com. The quote form does not accept uploads.
Gates, POAs, and paperwork
Lakeway has several gated and POA-managed communities with their own rules. Ask your POA and write down:
- What paperwork the gate or guard needs before move day.
- Whether the POA wants a certificate of insurance on file, and how far ahead.
- Move-day hours and where the truck can park.
- Whether the moving company name and truck plate must be on file.
Rough Hollow has a card-access gate and wants a COI on file with the POA office a week before. Flintrock Falls, off 620, has guard-gate paperwork and narrow streets in the back sections. The original Lakeway POA estates off Lohmans Crossing have mature lots and longer driveways, and the POA office wants the moving company name and truck plate on file. Serene Hills is newer, with wider streets and gentler approaches. Here is how we handle it: we pre-clear gate access with the POA office the week before. Rules change, so confirm yours in writing.
Larger homes need the right crew and the right start time
Lakeway homes often run larger, with more rooms, heavy furniture, and items spread across floors and outdoor spaces. That is why crew size matters as much as the rate. Ask any mover which crew size they would send and how long they expect the job to run. On the north shore, The Hollows at Northshore has long entry roads, and RR 620 north of Bee Cave stacks up after 3 p.m., so morning starts matter. Here is how we handle it: we start at 6:30 a.m. or arrive at 10 a.m., and we size the crew so a larger home does not stretch into afternoon traffic.
What a written Lakeway quote must include
Local moves are usually hourly. The PDF or email should still spell out:
- Crew size and truck size assumed for your inventory.
- The truck plan for steep driveways or deck-only access.
- The hourly rate, the minimum, and the billing increment after it.
- How packing materials and specialty items are priced.
- Gate, POA, and COI requirements named at both ends.
- Deposit amount, cancellation window, and reschedule policy.
Red flag: a round number with no questions about your driveway, gate, or home size. Here is how we handle it: the hourly rate you book is the rate you pay, with a two-hour minimum and 15-minute increments after it. Packing materials are a separate line item, and you pay only for what is used. Specialty items like a piano or safe are a flat add-on. For how the clock works, see our guide to hourly movers in Austin.
Step-by-step hire checklist
- List rooms, outdoor furniture, heavy items, and specialty pieces.
- Photograph the driveway, entry, stairs, and any deck access.
- Email the photos to support@heavenlymove.com with your quote request.
- Get gate, POA, and COI rules in writing a week ahead.
- Get at least one written estimate with crew size and the truck plan named.
- Book a morning start if you are on the north shore or near RR 620.
- Pack and stage before arrival so the crew is not packing on the clock.
How we quote Lakeway jobs
When you request a quote, we want inventory notes, floors, driveway photos, gate rules, and anything heavy or fragile before the date locks. You get a one-hour arrival window, or your first hour is free, and the crew lead texts an ETA. If you need us to pack a larger home, see our Austin packing services page. The clock starts when we arrive at your first address and stops when we're done.
Call (512) 340-0551 if you want to talk through a steep driveway or a gated community before you submit the form.
Trust signals specific to Lakeway
A local number that answers. Willingness to look at driveway photos and put the truck plan on the estimate before asking for a deposit. Reviews that mention careful handling and a final price close to the quote. A crew that handles gate paperwork ahead of time instead of waiting at the gate on your clock.
Lakeway to Bee Cave, Austin, or the Hill Country still needs two address notes
A short move west of Austin can mean a steep driveway at one end and an apartment or a gated community at the other. Both ends belong on the estimate. For nearby guides, see Bee Cave movers, Austin piano movers quote guide, and Austin to Lakeway movers.
FAQs
Can a moving truck get down my steep driveway? Sometimes not when loaded. Send photos and we plan where the truck stages and how the crew shuttles.
Do you handle gate and POA paperwork? Yes. We pre-clear gate access with the POA office the week before. Ask your POA what it needs.
Do you charge extra for long carries from the street? No. There is no extra fee for stairs or long carries. They just add time.
What time should a Lakeway move start? Morning is best, especially near RR 620 north of Bee Cave, where traffic stacks up after 3 p.m.
Should I tip? Many customers do when the crew finishes on plan. Tips are separate from the written rate.
